In January, 2012 the Board of Directors unanimously appointed several new board members, approved some engaging new C4K youth programs, and made a slight change in the identity and branding of the nonprofit organization! We are anxious to share with you these exciting developments – but first! introductions:

Mr. Michael Hamaoka is the new Chief Technical Officer (CTO) and is also new to the C4K Board of Directors. A longtime Montana resident, Michael’s expert knowledge and experience with computer programming, software development and management, as well as online learning and training will be invaluable at developing C4K chapters locally and online. Mike lives in Seattle, WA where he works as an independent software programmer and manager.

Dr. Sabine Reljic is C4K’s new Chief Learning Officer (CLO) for Computers4Kids. Sabine, a native of Normandy, France received her doctoral degree in Educational Technology from San Diego State University and the University of San Diego (joint program). She is a specialist in online and virtual “presence” with a focus on creating educational experiences and training in video games and avatar-based 3D virtual environments. Based in San Diego, Dr. Reljic is an online associate faculty at Ashford University and also works as an independent contractor for innovative learning and teaching solutions. She is looking forward to help develop C4K into the best technology camp with the right balance between tech time and the local community.

Dr. Jonathon Richter is the new Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Computers4Kids. Dr. Richter is a Montana native with deep ties to education, technology, and childhood development. Formerly an Assistant Professor in Teacher Education at Montana State University – Northern in Havre, Jonathon now lives in Missoula, Montana and works for The University of Oregon’s Center for Advanced Technology in Education as Director of the Center for Learning in Virtual Environments (CLIVE). He is very excited about the potential for C4K to operate statewide and beyond, having begun work to implement plans with new Chief Technology Officer, Michael Hamaoka to develop online learning services.

For the past decade, Computers 4 Kids has taken donated computers and cleaned and rebuilt them to give to children and individuals who otherwise wouldn’t be able to afford them.

This year, the group set up outside Rimrock GMC Cadillac, next to Rimrock Mall. The dealership partnered with Computers 4 Kids, paying the costs of recycling old monitors and other donated equipment.

Just in time for Christmas – Computers 4 Kids has partnered with Rimrock GMC Cadillac for the best-ever C4K annual computer-give-away! This charitable event will be held at at the 2540 Phyllis Lane location on December 20th from 8:00am to 5:00pm.

This year’s C4K give-away is even more exciting – thanks to a partnership with Rimrock GMC Cadillac at the 2540 Phyllis Lane location. They have agreed to co-sponsor the event and pay the costs of recycling old monitors and other equipment donated by the public. Because Computers 4 Kids is licensed with the State of Montana for electronic recycling, this means that not ONLY are they supporting youth with technology access and potential, but they’re also keeping community landfills free of the toxic materials found in digital equipment.

Everyone is encouraged to recycle their old computers and let Computers 4 Kids recondition those tax deductible donations with new hardware and appropriate software. C4K wants to help Montana give young people worthwhile, productive technology and the means to use it in ways that best support our communities!

It is a win-win situation for everyone. The kids get a free computer and the folks who donate their old computer are assured that their tax deductible donation is recycled in a responsible manner.
